Edgewood Community School

Edgewood Community School is a supportive, non-public high school (NPS) that combines therapeutic care with individualized education to help students with serious emotional and behavioral challenges thrive.

About Our Program

We know that some young people need more than a traditional classroom to succeed. Edgewood Community School provides a trauma-informed and caring educational environment for students ages 14 to 22 whose emotional and behavioral health needs make it difficult to find success in public school settings.

Access to our NPS program comes through the IEP (Individualized Education Plan) process, in close collaboration with a student’s home school district.

At Edgewood, we blend personalized instruction—aligned with each student’s learning profile and California State/Common Core Standards—together with in‑school therapeutic supports. This unique approach is especially helpful for students with emotional disturbances who benefit from consistent structure, encouragement, and a nurturing setting.

Many of our students begin their journey significantly below grade level. Our goal is to help them catch up academically while also addressing the emotional and social challenges that may have stood in their way.

Who We Help

  • Edgewood Community School supports youth ages 14 to 22 who face significant emotional or behavioral challenges, including those who:
  • Struggle with the impact of mental health conditions on school, family, or peer relationships
  • Have tried to succeed in public school programs with accommodations but still need more support
  • Have an IEP that authorizes placement in a non-public school setting

Many of our students come to us with histories of trauma, persistent mood or behavior struggles, and involvement with multiple care systems. We welcome students and families from all backgrounds and actively involve caregivers throughout the learning and healing process.

Program Outcomes

The ultimate goal of Edgewood Community School is to help students return to less restrictive school settings or graduate, while developing essential academic, coping, and life skills.

Other positive outcomes include:

  • Improved attendance, engagement, academic progress, and peer connections
  • Successful transitions back into mainstream schools, graduation, or readiness for college and employment
  • Reduced barriers to basic needs (housing, food, safety) with help from case management and access to community resources
  • Support for independence—our staff guide students with job and college applications, addressing housing needs, and completing essential documents, ensuring continuity and preparation for adult life
