The Partial Hospitalization Program runs between 2 to 4 weeks on average, and youth participate in programming Monday to Friday from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM. The program utilizes close supervision, monitoring, and support to ensure safety after a mental health crisis and works towards gradually re-integrating youth into their homes and communities.
The goal of the Partial Hospitalization Program is to ensure families and their children have appropriate community-based supports (both therapeutic and recreational) as well as facilitate a smooth re-entry into school upon completion of the program. The program targets the reduction of high-risk behaviors with an emphasis on developing coping strategies and crisis management skills for both youth and their caregivers.
The Partial Hospitalization Program takes place in a therapeutic milieu setting that emphasizes group-based treatment, including groups such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Skills Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychoeducation Therapy, Creative Application, and Behavior Activation. Youth in this program receive individual therapy, family therapy, group therapy, and medication management.
Edgewood’s Partial Hospitalization Program is ideally suited for youth requiring intensive support and stabilization before being ready to return to school. Partial Hospitalization offers an important bridge between residential programs and community-based care, and can be used as a step-down from residential or as a step-up if a youth’s mental health symptoms are worsening despite community-based support.
