Comprehensive Support for Kinship Families in San Francisco and Greater Bay Area

The Edgewood’s Family Resource Center offers a robust set of community-based services designed to support families holistically. Services include food and basic needs pantry, parent/caregiver support groups, parenting courses, parent-child interactive activities, case management, mental health treatment, visitation supervision, resource library, family fun nights, summer field trips, cultural celebrations, and Enhanced Case Management. Services are provided in English, Spanish, and Chinese.

Services Offered

Intensive Case Management

Individualized, culturally responsive support for navigating child welfare systems, community resources, and access to services.

Caregiver and Peer Support Groups

Facilitated groups to reduce isolation, allow for information sharing, and boost peer-to-peer learning.

Caregiver Training and Education

Skill-building on trauma-informed parenting, behavioral strategies, and resource navigation.

Respite Services

Short-term relief for kin caregivers to reduce burnout and sustain placements.

Access to Food Pantry and Basic Needs Supplies

Immediate support to address concrete needs and promote family stability.

Mental Health Treatment

Links to or delivery of mental health services for kinship youth and caregivers—prioritizing trauma mitigation and family wellness.

Community Nursing Support

Screening, health education, and coordination with primary care and public health for kinship families.

Who We Help

  • Relatives caring for children and youth residing in San Francisco, San Mateo or Contra Costa counties. May be formal or informal placements.
  • Children and teens from early childhood to age 21 living with relative caregivers, including those at risk of placement disruption or with unmet behavioral health or psychosocial needs.
  • Particularly relevant for families navigating child welfare involvement, guardianship, or seeking post-permanency stabilization.

Edgewood’s Kinship Program is an ideal support for youth and families at risk of disruption, supporting whole-family functioning, permanency, and long-term wellness through a combination of clinical and practical services.

Edgewood can provide referral materials, discuss case specifics, and provide program flyers for other providers.

Program Goals

The Kinship Program aims to

Increase placement stability and permanency for youth via intensive caregiver and family support.

Mitigate the impact of trauma in kinship youth by providing holistic family-centered services.
Improve access to resources, including mental health, health, education, financial, and basic needs assistance.
Reduce caregiver stress and placement disruptions.
