Giving Thanks with the Edgewood Auxiliary

Our friends in the Edgewood Auxiliary know exactly how stressful the holidays can be.

With so much going on between friends, family, and food, there is little time for rest; yet they also know exactly how hard a lonely holiday season can be. That’s why last Thursday on November 16, 2017, twenty-five members of our wonderful auxiliary came together to throw a Thanksgiving party for all staff and youth at Edgewood.

Members arrived around 4:00 pm to prepare our gym for a holiday feast. They brought everything fit for a Thanksgiving dinner and then some, from creamy corn to mashed potatoes and, of course, cuts of sweet and juicy turkey. As guests began to file in, the ladies of the auxiliary greeted and directed them to the serving line for food, wishing them a happy Thanksgiving as they went.

The mixed crowd of party-goers numbered just over seventy Edgewood staff and youth, all of whom were delighted for a chance to celebrate with their extended family and community. For some in the crowd, it was a rare and welcome opportunity for them to join in the festivities.

Edgewood Auxiliary members also took the time to entertain their audience with games of bingo, making paper crafts of turkeys, and even some Thanksgiving-themed face painting. They also spent the night decorating custom ornaments for the San Francisco Symphony’s Deck the Halls Concert, where Edgewood will be decorating a tree this year.
